My last day at the beach I drove to Calabash, NC to eat an oyster roast at Ella’s. If you are vegan or vegetarian you may want to stop reading now. Many mollusks died for me on Friday.

I have a favourite spot like this, Janet, on the road between Savannah and Tybee Island. The menu is crab legs and there is a big hole in the bar height table, outdoors, and you toss the empty casings as you munch. I like crab better than lobster.

I’ve heard about that place from several friends, but haven’t made it there yet. The thought of cracking crabs and sucking out all that sweet meat may motivate me to head to Tybee soon. I’m like you, I would rather have crab than lobster.

I am meeting up there in September with my sister and two cousins for a few days … when are you thinking of travelling over there. We haven’t locked in dates yet but it will be after 9th some time. We’re co-ordinating agendas as I write this.

Hmmn…I don’t have any actual plans for when to head to Tybee and the crab feast. Perhaps we can share crabs and a pitcher of beer in September???

That’s what I’m thinking, Janet … that would be so cool! My sister is in GA, I’m in Ontario and our two sister cousins are in B.C. As soon as we have the dates co-ordinated, I will let you know. All I know right now is it will be sometime after the 9th and before the 30th.

Sounds like enough of a plan for me. I will be back home from a recorder camp on September 8th, so timing will work great.

OK … keep you posted. May not be any more definitive plans until summer sometime.

I remember eating at a place very similar to this on summer trips to Myrtle Beach. I can still taste the hushpuppies!

Oh yes! At Ella’s the hush puppies are delivered to the table as soon as you sit down. I had to restrain myself and only have a couple, in order to save room for the oysters.
