    1. Newgrange is an Irish neolithic tomb oriented to the winter solstice. It’s older than the pyramids in Egypt. The lower opening is the entrance. The upper opening admits a shaft of light that on the winter solstice, used to bisect a spiral carved into the furthest back wall of the tomb chamber. The orbit of the earth has changed enough in the last 4,000+ years that the light now hits to the right of the center of that spiral.
